A Catholic Study Group for adults is starting during Advent at the St. Anthony of Padua Parish Spiritual Center in Tamuning!
Meetings will be held weekly on Monday evenings at 6:45 p.m., after the parish Mass, and the first meeting will be held on Monday, November 28, 2022.
Each meeting will begin and end with a short prayer. Discussion will center on various magisterial teachings and writings of saints and Doctors of the Church, with constant recourse to the Sacred Scriptures. Each meeting will last no longer than an hour and there’ll be no homework!
The first topic of study for the group will be the Catechism of the Council of Trent, or the “Roman Catechism.” This catechism was produced under the supervision of St. Charles Borromeo and promulgated by Pope St. Pius V in 1566. The work was a major initiative of the Counter Reformation and was meant to provide priests material for clear and cogent homilies in the time of the growing Protestant movement.
There will not be any lectures at these sessions. Instead, the text will be read out loud in a round-robin fashion, with an opportunity after each section/paragraph for comments and questions to the group.
