The Church has always held the firm conviction that those who suffer death for the sake of the faith without having received Baptism are baptized by their death for and with Christ. This Baptism of blood, like the desire for Baptism, brings about the fruits of Baptism without being a sacrament.

In the 1940s, Nazis murdered the Ulma family. Now, for the first time in the history of the Catholic Church, an entire family will be beatified. Just as significant, the beatification will include another first: the recognition of the salvation of an unborn child.
Józef and Wiktoria Ulma were a Polish husband and wife who lived in the village of Markowa with their children during World War II. Markowa is a small village located in the southeast of Poland, not so far from today’s Ukrainian border. Józef and Wiktoria were locally known to be pious, committed people, always keen on helping others. Read more here.
