Pope Francis’s First Apostolic Exhortation

Pope Francis has issued his first Apostolic Exhortation, Evangelii Gaudium (“Joy of the Gospel”) and it seems to summarize the themes that he has publicly promoted since he took the Chair of Peter.

“I prefer a Church which is bruised, hurting and dirty because it has been out on the streets, rather than a Church which is unhealthy from being confined and from clinging to its own security.” EG 49

7 themes (EG 17)

  1. the reform of the Church in her missionary outreach;
  2. the temptations faced by pastoral workers;
  3. the Church, understood as the entire People of God which evangelizes;
  4. the homily and its preparation;
  5. the inclusion of the poor in society;
  6. peace and dialogue within society;
  7. the spiritual motivations for mission.

Our New Roku box and CatholicTV

Good News out of Bawstun!

Our new Roku 1 box arrived in the mail yesterday, and we rushed to set it up last night.  A Roku box, if you don’t already know, provides over a thousand TV and movie channels through the internet for viewing on your TV.  We hardly ever watch TV, but we were excited about the possibility of getting access to hundreds of free educational programs.

Of course, the channel selections included the usual suspects, but we were surprised by the large number of religious – specifically Christian – options.  In addition to EWTN, we found a great Catholic station out of Boston called “CatholicTV“.  Completely orthodox and a good complement to Mother Angelica’s network.  Check them out!
